Ask Father...
What is the role of the deacon in the Church? How does their training differ from that of a priest?

On-Line Priest Q & A
Do you have a question about our Catholic faith that you want to ask a priest but haven't had a good opportunity to ask it? Here's your chance! Send your question to Caryn at the Rectory (330-467-7959) or clintner@sbcglobal.net. We will list your question anonymously on the new Ask Father page, and a priest will answer your question.

Prayer for Lent

Good and loving God,
each year you give us this season of Lent to turn our hearts and minds back to you. May the prayer we offer during this season draw us closer to you in love as we seek forgiveness for our sins.
May our fasting help us see that even as this world is a gift from you it is still passing away and will not endure. May our almsgiving honor you as we care for our brothers and sisters whose need is great and whose hope is in you.
Help us in this holy season to be reconciled with you and with any whom we have harmed so that we may celebrate an Easter of eternal joy. Amen.

LENTEN OBLIGATIONS and OBSERVANCES
Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting means partaking of only one full meal; some food is acceptable to be eaten at the other two meal times. (Anyone who is ill or who has medical concerns is not obliged to fast.) With regard to Good Friday, the teaching of the Second Vatican Council should be recalled: “Let the paschal fast be kept sacred. Let it be celebrated everywhere on Good Friday, and where possible, prolonged throughout Holy Saturday, so that the joys of the Sunday of the Resurrection may be attained with uplifted and clear mind.”

In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent.

Y.A.F.F. for B-U-S-Y People!
St. Barnabas Parish, in partnership with the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office, will be hosting two evenings of Young Adult Faith Formation for busy Catholics in their 20s and 30s, married or single, with or without children. The topic for the first evening, February 24, will be “Confessions of a Time-aholic.” We will be discussing how to use the gift of time in our demanding, multi-tasking world. Join together for a hot meal, fellowship and prayerful reflection. We will meet from 6:30–8:45 p.m. in the NYV room. Cost is $5. To register or learn more, contact Jennifer Delciappo at delciappojl@gmail.com.
