MINISTRY OF CARE AND CONSOLATION
New Beginnings

Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted . . . .

The St. Barnabas Bereavement Ministry, New Beginnings (together with our Homebound Ministry comprise our “Ministry of Care and Consolation”), has been reaching out to those of our parish family who have lost loved ones in a variety of different areas which include:
  • Attendance at wakes and funeral masses;
  • Delivery of food to the home;
  • Mailing of a letter to let the grieving know we are here with thoughts and prayers for a New Beginning;
  • Follow-up phone call lending a listening ear or sharing thoughts and suggestions for counseling, etc.;
  • Home visits, if desired;
  • Quarterly gatherings scheduled at momentous times during the year to share, pray and console one another; and
  • Care Notes (helpful pamphlets) located in the back of the Church.
We want you to know you do not have to walk this path alone, and if you are journeying through grief or know someone who is and could benefit from our support, please do not hesitate to call either Peg or Patti.

We ask that you also watch the website for updates on suggested reading, helpful phone numbers, surveys on what you would think would be helpful, etc.

Anyone who is interested in joining New Beginnings or would like more information regarding the ministry, please call Patti Yanoviz.

St. Barnabas Funeral Choir Ministry

Members are contacted by email and phone as soon as a funeral is scheduled. All who are available will attend the funeral Mass as members of the congregation seated behind the family and friends of the deceased, thus powerfully building the voice and spirit of the congregation through spoken prayer and song. It is a simple but powerful gesture of support and an opportunity to pray for the soul of the parishioner as well as family and friends faced with grief. You are not put “on the spot” because of this structure.

Come, and allow God to work through you in this important outreach. You do not need musical experience.

If interested, please contact our Director of Music, Bob Burian, at bburian@barnabasohio.org or by phone at 216-375-1969. Click here for a registration form.

Funeral Preparation

To better plan ahead for what YOU would want done AND to help those who would have to plan your requests at the time of your death, we have put together a Funeral Mass Planning Sheet. If you wish, you can pick this up at the Rectory or download it here. For a list of song selections, click here. If you have any questions, please call the Rectory.
