Homebound Ministry/Volunteer Visitor Program
The Homebound Ministry is a beautiful and rewarding out-reach ministry that connects Church/Christ to the homebound via our many Eucharistic Minister volunteers. Currently, we visit over 35 St. Barnabas homebound. Our visits are typically 15-30 minutes long.

We also, reach out and visit five nursing homes in the area; Brentwood, Walton Manor, Northfield Retirement Village, Grand Manor, St. Barnabas Villa, and Elmcroft. Weekly, we either bring communion service or Mass, one-on-one room visits or rosary prayer groups to each of these facilities.

There are basically two types of home bounders: short-term and long-term. The short-term home bounders are usually convalescing from surgery or a brief illness. Many Eucharistic Ministers typically handle the scheduling of these types of visits on their own, as it may be a neighbor or a friend that has personally asked for Eucharist to be brought to them. For all others, please call the Rectory; we would be happy to schedule a Eucharistic Minister to bring communion to you.

When home bounders become long term, it is typically due to terminal illness, the inability to drive or a variety of other reasons. We encourage you to call the Rectory and ask for a Eucharistic Minister visit.

The Volunteer Visitor Program (V.V.P.) is closely linked with the Homebound Ministry. The difference is that V.V.P. provides an extended visit time/companionship up to an hour or so per week with the home bounder. This visit may also allow the main caregiver respite to leave to run errands, appointments, etc. To become a V.V.P. doesn’t require you to be a Eucharistic Minister, but there is training involved. Contact the Rectory for further information.

If you currently are a Eucharistic Minister and would like to be involved in the Homebound Ministry, please let me know via the Rectory. Orientation is a brief 30 minutes which I can train on a one-to-one or group basis.
